REACh Workshops

The following are descriptions of a variety of workshops that are regularly scheduled throughout the year. Please view the calendar section of the website for dates and the Regional Centers section for registration information.

Beginning School Implementation: REACh Framework

Purpose: The purpose of this workshop is to introduce school leadership teams to the REACh Framework, promote collaboration and communication, develop strategies for addressing student and system needs, and to generate a focused action plan.
Action plans include strategies, timelines, evaluation criteria, benchmarks, and sustainability measures that will guide implementation efforts. Content focus is on common elements that characterize highly effective schools.
Participants are involved in activities that address Professional Learning Communities, Professional Development, the role of the REACh mentor, and SMART goals.
Workshop activities guide participating teams in matching local priorities to the levels of the REACh Framework through a continuous improvement process.
This training is a requirement for first year REACh grant recipients. Anyone interested in implementing the REACh Framework is welcome to attend.

Length: Full day; lunch served.

Prerequisites: No special background needed. This workshop is open to all Wisconsin school communities, including districts that do not have REACh Incentive Grants. Participants may wish to bring copies of their local school improvement plan.

Who should attend: Schools beginning to implement a multi-tier model of educational options, including those in the beginning stages of implementing the REACh Framework. Participants should come as a school team including, at minimum, a building principal, special education teacher, general education teacher, and a parent/family member. A pupil services staff member is highly recommended.

Participation is most helpful when a leadership staff participates for the duration of the workshop. Schools involved in a REACh grant project for the first time are required to attend this workshop.


Framework Appraisal

Purpose: Prior to attending this training, participants are required to complete the Framework Appraisal Preparation Packet, which is accessible through the regional REACh Center.
The purpose of this workshop is for school leadership teams to assess which REACh Framework components are established within the school community, promote collaboration, and to generate a focused action plan.
Action plans include strategies, timelines, evaluation criteria, benchmarks, and sustainability measures that will guide implementation efforts.
The workshop employs a structured data based decision making process that includes team readiness, data sources, data analysis, posing hypotheses, setting goals, study and action plans, evaluation, roll out and commitment.
This training is a requirement for all continuing REACh grant recipients. Anyone in year two or more of framework implementation is welcome to attend.

Length: One day, lunch served

Prerequisites: Framework Appraisal is designed for school teams in year two or more of REACh framework implementation and who have not scheduled on-site training with their mentor.
School teams must have attended the Beginning School Implementation training prior to registering for this workshop.

Who should attend: REACh Leadership Teams


Progress Monitoring

Purpose: The purpose of this workshop is to assist district and school teams in implementing system wide screening and progress monitoring to improve student outcomes, which is part of a balanced assessment system. Participants will acquire knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Relationship between response to intervention (RtI) and progress monitoring
  • Necessary components of a progress monitoring system
  • The degree to which components currently exist within the school community
  • Benefits
  • Design and implementation of procedures
  • Available resources

Teams will generate a plan of action that will support implementation of a progress monitoring system at their local site.
This training is open to anyone who is interested in learning about progress monitoring as part of their balanced assessment system.

Length: Two days, lunch served

Prerequisites: No special background needed. This workshop is open to all Wisconsin school communities, including districts that do not have REACh Incentive Grants. It is highly recommended for school communities beginning to implement multi-tier educational models.

Who should attend: Anyone interested in learning about progress monitoring systems. Participants are encouraged to attend with at least one colleague from their school or district.


Resource Mapping

Purpose: The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with knowledge and skills needed to conduct effective resource mapping at their local sites. T
he actual mapping of resources does not take place during the training session.
Resource mapping is a component of the REACh Framework, and enables educators to coordinate resources around responsive education. Participants will be introduced to activities in the four stages of the Resource Mapping process; pre-mapping, mapping; strategic implementation, and evaluate, refresh, recycle.
Participants will leave with tools and strategies needed for working with stakeholders to conduct effective resource mapping. This training is open to anyone who is interested in learning about Resource Mapping.

Length: 1 day

Prerequisites: No special background needed. This workshop is open to all Wisconsin school communities, including districts that do not have REACh Incentive Grants.

Who should attend: This training is most beneficial for teams of 3 to 4 individuals. Teams should include personnel who have knowledge of the school/district structure and available programs and resources.


How Family Friendly Are We?

Purpose: Families and schools share a common goal; they strive for children to be successful. The research is clear that when families are involved, students do better academically and behaviorally. Workshop participants will share ideas that have been successful in involving families and will also explore the challenges to family involvement. Workshop content will provide background and strategies to overcome the challenges and plan for flexible and meaningful family involvement.

Prerequisites: No special background needed. This workshop is open to all Wisconsin school communities, including districts that do not have REACh Incentive Grants.

Who should attend: Educators and family members. REACh Leadership teams are encouraged to attend.


Fundamentals of Family Involvement

Purpose: Family involvement is key to planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating high quality educational programs. This introductory workshop will help participants increase their awareness of how effective partnership practices can improve student achievement and behavior. Joyce Epstein’s Six Components of Successful Family, School, and Community serve as the foundation of the workshop. Participants complete a “quality indicators” checklist for their school and brainstorm specific ideas and projects to promote the six components.

Who should attend: Educators and family members committed to developing and maintaining strong school-family-community partnerships. REACh Leadership teams are encouraged to attend.


Keys to Successful School/Family Partnerships: Facing our Fears – Communication and Collaboration

Purpose: Families and schools want children to succeed. When families are involved, children do better. Positive communication and collaboration between families and school is the key. This workshop will explore how to establish the groundwork for positive communication, the obstacles that may inhibit communication and positive strategies and practices to promote family: school partnerships.

Length: ½ day

Prerequisites: No special background needed. This workshop is open to all Wisconsin school communities, including districts that do not have REACh Incentive Grants.

Who should attend: Educators and family members. REACh Leadership teams are encouraged to attend.


Families and Teachers in Problem Solving

Purpose: Family/School Partnerships provide best outcomes for children. Opportunities for collaborative problem solving occur regularly at school. Participants will explore the environment that promotes positive problem solving, review the philosophy and specific practices of collaboration and will have opportunities to practice the strategies.

Length: ½ day

Prerequisites: No special background needed. This workshop is open to all Wisconsin school communities, including districts that do not have REACh Incentive Grants.

Who should attend: Educators and family members. REACh Leadership teams are encouraged to attend.


Parent Representatives on School Leadership Teams

Purpose: The REACh Framework expects parents and school staff to work together on school leadership teams to realize the success of all children. Participants will learn the role of the parent on the school Leadership Team, how this can support families with their children’s learning, and how this can help to encourage family representation and participation.

Length: ½ day

Prerequisites: None

Who should attend: Family members on REACh Leadership Teams. Parent members on related school leadership teams are also welcome.
